Still others, however, prefer to turn up the radiators so as not to sleep too covered and, when summer arrives, there are those who opt for a fan or air conditioning and those who, on the other hand, do not even cover themselves with a sheet.

The same happens with the use of socks. In practice, it is a matter of taste.

We certainly do not want to change your habits or tell you that what you do is right or wrong, but to give you all the information you need to answer the question: is it good or not to sleep with socks on?

While it is true that socks keep us warm, they have some unhealthy consequences, including:

  • Infections (fungi, athlete’s foot, peeling).
  • Circulation problems (especially if the socks are very tight on the ankles).
  • Feet neither rest nor cool.
  • Bad smells because they are “locked up”.

The good news is that, to avoid all these problems, it is recommended that you always change your socks before going to sleep. In other words, never use the same ones worn during the day.

Not only because they are dirty, but also because they accumulate sweat and bacteria and also stain the sheets. In addition, it is necessary to use socks that do not tighten and that do not block blood circulation.

Always choose cotton socks or, better still, those special socks that are used, for example, on airplanes or during long journeys.

On the other hand, if you want to sleep soundly, without suddenly waking up, the best thing is to wear socks. Did you know that those who sleep with socks have a more pleasant sensation than those who use different blankets?

In this way, in fact, it is possible to prevent the sudden changes in body temperature that make us wake up suddenly or that prevent us from reconciling sleep. It is perfect for not having to get up to go to the bathroom at dawn and not to bother those who sleep next to us!

They are hidden by shoes or pants, we don’t want them to be noticed and we even feel embarrassed if we wear them in moments of intimacy with our partner or when we visit the doctor.

Not to mention when, timidly, they peek out of their shoes or pants and show the world that they are unmatched! Despite this, there are more and more styles in vogue that highlight socks and offer them on the market with different patterns, materials and uses.

A study conducted by the Spanish Society of Neurology explains that one of the best ways to rest well is to wear a pair of socks.

It would seem that this simple habit guarantees many hours of restful sleep and is able to prevent chronic insomnia. We can even say that socks are magical items that help us forget everyday problems!

There are other reasons why we don’t sleep well: physiological changes caused by age, travel, exposure to extreme temperatures, not being at home or eating an unbalanced diet.

Although there are many “grandmother’s remedies” to be able to rest better (drinking an infusion, taking a hot bath, having a light dinner or counting sheep), we can say that wearing socks is the cure for all ills.

Obviously, to do this,  you also need to adopt other habits, such as not exercising in the evening, avoiding coffee or fizzy drinks at dinner, and not watching TV in bed.

It goes without saying that a good rest serves to improve memory, recharge the batteries and even regenerate the skin.

Despite this, to enjoy all these benefits, it is necessary to maintain a balanced body temperature throughout the night.

At dawn, the ambient temperature decreases compared to the rest of the day and the same happens with our body. This is why, so often, when we go to bed, we only need one blanket, but then we wake up in the middle of the night to cover ourselves with something else too.

The clothing items we choose for sleeping are essential. The use of socks or slippers that warm our feet is healthy and necessary.

Just as it happens during the day, when we feel cold throughout our body if our feet are cold, at night we need to keep our lower limbs warm to sleep well.

When the feet are warm, the veins dilate and the heat is better distributed throughout the body. The brain “understands” that the body is fine and is therefore more inclined to rest.

If, on the other hand, the feet are cold, the organism will be too and the mind must therefore work harder to regulate the body temperature. This prevents us from relaxing, puts us in a “state of alert” and falling asleep becomes more difficult.
