The reasons for chronic victimization may be real, but we all know the typical traits of this type of person. She is typically insecure, dependent on help from others, unable to resolve personal problems for herself, recognize her mistakes, and more.

Victimization is considered as a possible symptom of psychological disturbance and can also present itself in a very intense form. It ends up completely affecting the lifestyle of those who suffer from it and those around them.

Everyone will have had to face a very difficult situation; a moment in which life puts us in the position of the victim, either because someone tried to harm us or because of our wrong decision.

What allows us to improve is the attitude with which we are able to overcome these moments and move forward. Unfortunately, not all of us have this ability to move forward, to overcome problems. Some live in a sea of negativity and fall prey to self-victimization for the rest of their lives.

Recognizing this type of people is easy, just pay attention to the facial expression, the bad posture assumed while walking and even the pessimistic tone of voice that he always uses when speaking.

  • They tend to interpret everything that happens as some kind of curse or the fault of others.
  • In this way they feed their own victimhood, to the point of alienating others.
  • They harbor feelings of resentment and envy and free themselves from any responsibility for their tragedies.

Here are some of the typical characteristics of those living in chronic victimhood:

1. They accuse others of not helping them

No matter what the real situation behind their problem is: they always find a way to interpret the facts so that it is the fault of others and never theirs. In doing so, they end up manipulating events unconsciously ; this is something that comes naturally to them because they feel like victims.

3. Chronically victimized sufferers show limited self-criticism

Although people suffering from chronic victimization are unable to consider their own qualities, they do know how to self-criticize their actions. However, this can also be a way of attributing to others the origin of one’s own wrong behavior. Ultimately, viewing themselves as victims makes their capacity for self-criticism much more limited.

4. They focus their imagination on bad luck

These types of people fantasize thinking that they came into the world only to suffer and that the future does not offer them any good. They feel better talking about it with other people, but even that ultimately leads to a distorted view of reality.

5. Chronically victimized people manipulate unknowingly

They resort to blackmail as their only resource to get all the help they can get when they want. To this end, they “work” on the minds of other people, making victims so that in the event of an accident or failure, others can feel guilty and provide the required help.

6. A problem that becomes chronic

Chronic victimization is a problem that worsens over time as the person makes his tragedies and grievances a habit. The possible cause can be explained by those situations where we try hard to fix things, but then we don’t see good results.

The repetition of this circumstance leads to a state of despair and frustration in which everything turns into emotional burden. This is how people begin to consider these kinds of negative situations as normal or think they deserve them. It could be said that it  is life itself that turns them into victims unable to find a way out.
